Our Story

Growth of a Legend.

Takeuchi Mfg. Co., Ltd. was founded in 1963 by Akio Takeuchi in Sakaki, Nagano, Japan. Four years later, Mr. Takeuchi was asked to build a machine that could take the hard labor off people’s shoulders and put it into steel. That request lit the spark that transformed the industry.

Founded on Ingenuity. Forged in Steel.

In 1971, we answered with the world’s first compact excavator, a machine that redefined productivity on tight jobsites. In 1986, we did it again with the first compact track loader, giving operators traction and stability where wheeled machines failed. Both machines didn’t just succeed — they redefined construction around the world.

From those breakthroughs, Takeuchi has grown into a global force in compact equipment. Our compact excavators and track loaders earned international recognition for durability and precision, built to thrive in the toughest conditions. We expanded into North America in 1979, with Europe and Asia quickly following, establishing a global footprint of manufacturing, training, and distribution to better support our customers wherever the work takes them.

Driven to Define and Exceed Standards.

Takeuchi’s passion for innovation never faltered. In 2006, we introduced Takeuchi Fleet Management (TFM), our telematics platform designed to keep owners connected to their machines. More recently, we launched the TB20e, our first fully electric compact excavator, as part of a growing commitment to sustainability and cleaner jobsite solutions. Each step forward builds on the same philosophy that started in 1967 — listening directly to owners and operators, then turning their toughest challenges into practical solutions.

Poised for the Future.

Today, from our headquarters in Nagano to facilities across the globe, Takeuchi is still guided by the same purpose that launched our first compact machine: to make work more efficient, more precise, and more rewarding for the people who do it.

Takeuchi isn’t just about building machines. It’s about building trust, backing our customers, and shaping a more sustainable future — one innovation, one solution, and one jobsite at a time.
